As we get ready to bid farewell to 2017, we are met with a host of new goals and stresses for the new year. I think we can all attest to the fact that 2017 was quite a year and very, VERY stressful! From an unstable political climate to natural disasters and personal fails. We all had a pretty tough time. We stressed way too much, and it’s definitely time to stress less. And I think that starting 2018 out on a good foot, and not stressed, is vital. It will set the tone for your new year and will affect your goals.
Most of us have completely written 2017 off. And I wholly understand. You’re ready to bid farewell to a wretched year. But don’t be so quick to dismiss the rest of 2017. Albeit just a couple of days. There are many things that can be done NOW to ensure that you start 2018 feeling fresh, stress free and happy. So here are tips you can implement now and throughout the new year to ensure that you are as happy and as stress free as can be!
Create New Goals
Carve out some time ,to sit down and really think about your 2017. What did and didn’t work. What realistic goals do you want to achieve in 2018? Personal, physical, mental, financial? Write them all down. Do remember that goals are just dreams on paper unless you actually make and keep to a plan to achieve these goals. Writing out a years goals without actionable steps is just way too overwhelming, and most likely you will not achieve those goals. So break the goals up into smaller more realistic goals. Want to lose weight? Know your final weight, but looking at that number could be overwhelming. So set short -term monthly goals. This way the goal seems more attainable and you are more likely to succeed.
*A note on weight. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat and you should go more by feeling than on numbers. See how your clothes fit and how you are feeling.
De-Clutter To Stress Less
Having a clean home will make you feel so much better, and less stressed. So set aside a couple of hours to really clean your house from top to bottom. Yes, even that cupboard where everything seems to be stashed when you need to put things somewhere. Get rid of anything you haven’t used lately, is broken or no longer fits. Sell it, donate it to a charity or give stuff to friends and family who could use them.Having a clean and organised home will allow you to be more organised, and to run your life more smoothly.It will leave you happier and more relaxed. Exactly what you want to achieve in 2018. Plus, you’ll be able to focus on what’s more important, such as your yourself, your job and family.
Schedule Some Me Time
Carving out some me time is vital. It is so IMPORTANT. Let me reiterate and rephrase, it is not selfish. How can you be of service and a nice person to others and take care of their needs if you have not taken care of your own? So start now and set some time aside for yourself. It may be in the form of a nice relaxing bath at the end of the day. Whatever it is, start now by adding it to your schedule. Carry on implementing this throughout the start and course of 2018. Ladies, this is so important and you deserve it. Don’t feel guilty. Never feel guilty about looking after yourself.
Answer Your Emails And Clean Out Your Inbox
Anybody else get really stressed out when they open their inbox and see hundreds of unanswered emails? Don’t worry you’re not alone. Start now by answering all unanswered emails and clean out your inbox . It may take a couple of hours, but knowing that you don’t have to start the new year with a mountain of emails to answer is a real relief. So go through your inbox and delete anything you no longer need. Then organise your inbox by dividing emails into folders. It’s quite an undertaking, so grab that glass, or bottle of wine and get started.
As much as we would all to think we have the memory of an elephant, unfortunately we do not. Get organised now by writing lists. Going to the grocery store? Instead of shopping without knowing exactly what you need, write a list before hand. This will not only save you time but also money. Creating lists will ensure that you keep on top of tasks and help you to feel less stressed.
Use Your Bonus: Pay Debts
If you were fortunate enough to receive a bonus this year then put it to good use. If you haven’t already. Starting the new year stress free and debt free will definitely help you to have a better 2018. So why not use that bonus to pay of that credit card debt. The sooner you pay it off, the better. If you have used your bonus on some self-love then thats okay too. Just ensure that you come to terms and figure out how you will be paying off the debt you owe.
Goals and plans do not always, well, go to plan. Reflect on this past year and see where you fell short. There’s no point on knocking yourself down because you didn’t achieve what you set out to in the past. Rather re-evaluate your goals and where you went wrong. See how you can better them in the future. Maybe you approached them incorrectly and you now know how to best achieve them in 2018. It is also important to acknowledge your triumphs. Remember that you are human and that no one is perfect. Be proud of yourself for what you have achieved and how you have grown and learnt as a person.

Having to physically log in and pay your rent or other payments every month is a waste of time. Not to mention if you actually have to go to the bank every month. By automating your payments, or setting up debit orders you will save a great deal of stress every month. Not to mention that this way you will ensure that you are never late with a payment.
A Clean Slate
Nothing holds you back like not letting go of the past. What’s done is done and there is nothing that you can do about it now. So forget, or let go of what happened in the past and use your future as a new slate. Create new goals and memories and move forward. It will be a lot more difficult to be happy and reach goals in 2018 if you are still carrying around baggage from 2017. I know it may be difficult, but do give it a go.
