I feel like cleaning, along with laundry, is the biggest waste of time. Don’t mistake me for living in a pigsty, because I don’t, but I will ALWAYS opt to rather cook or bake, or preferably watch my favourite series than clean. I know I’m not alone on this. I’m lucky that my apartment is pretty small so there’s not too much cleaning to be done, but it’s still a pain in the ass.
Spring cleaning is typically an annual deep clean of your house undertaken at the end of winter before spring starts. To help you make the process as quick and painless as possible I have curated a list of spring cleaning hacks for people who hate cleaning! I hope these tips help you to get through the cleaning as easily as possible so that you can move on to more exciting things.
Clean Oil With Oil
As strange as this might sound, it really works. Oil splatters in the kitchen can be rather tough to clean at times, and soaps don’t always seem to clean the grime away. Place a few drops of vegetable oil onto kitchen paper towel and wipe the oil splatters away. Watch them vanish in front of your eyes. Once done, wipe with a clean towel and that’s it!
Wash Your Windows
Wash your windows inside and outside. But the trick here is the time that you wash them. Wash them on a cloudy day so that the sun doesn’t dry the soap before you’ve finished washing. It’s important to wash the outside too because you don’t normally have time to get there, so this spring clean is the best time.
The trick to getting rid of water stains properly is to wash them with vinegar. Water stains are not only an eye-sore but they can be tough to get rid of at times. Soak some paper towels in white vinegar and place the towels on the water stains. Leave for an hour and return to remove them and reveal sparkling surfaces!
Having to re-wash your dishes once they have been through the dishwasher is a waste of time and a total pain! To ensure that this doesn’t happen and that your dishwasher is removing all the sauce stains, it needs to be clean too! So remove all pieces of food and then wash an empty dishwasher with a special dishwasher cleaner. This should be done more than just once and not just during spring cleaning. About once a month is good.
Make Your Microfibre Couch Look Brand New
Kids and dogs spent too much time on the couch and left stains and marks? That’s okay because rubbing alcohol will solve the problem. Place rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and use a clean white sponge to rub the couch. When the couch is dry use a dry brittle brush to fluff up the fibres.
Lint Roll Your Lampshade
Lint rollers are magical. Simply roll one on a lampshade and watch the dust vanish instantly. Lint rollers remove fluff and dust from most surfaces actually. So its a good idea to be well stocked up with lint rollers.
Clean Your Mirror With Shaving Foam
Simply spray some foam onto any mirror and clean with a cloth. Your mirrors will be left bright and clean.
Hard To Clean Places
Some places can be really hard to reach. This means that they are seldom or never cleaned. This spring clean is a good time to tackle these areas. If your vacuum can’t reach some places then take a broom and attach a cloth and fasten with a rubber band. Clean away! Super easy and effective.
Remove Garbage Disposal Odours
Citrus cubes are a lot easier to make than you think. Simply use frozen citrus and vinegar. Put a few citrus peels in a muffin tray and then fill with vinegar. Freeze and then toss a couple into the garbage disposal. You’ll be greeted by a lovely citrus smell.
Clean Your Microwave In Under 30 Seconds
Most microwaves get these really hard to clean spots at times. All you have to do is place a bowl of water in the microwave and then switch on allowing the water to steam. The steam will soften the spots and allow you to easily wipe them away.
I know there are many spring cleaning hacks, but having these 10 spring cleaning hacks will definitely help you whizz through all that cleaning. Let me know what you think of the hacks and whether you have any great hacks you would like to share.
