I love travelling… but then who doesn’t?! I must admit that it can be rather stressful though and requires a great deal of planning. Especially if you are planning on an overseas vacation. You have to book accommodation, flights, think about what to pack as well as where you would like to explore. A great deal goes into planning an amazing holiday, but luckily I have created a list of travel hacks that will make your next trip more enjoyable!

Save On Your Flight With Scott’s Cheap Flights

Finding cheap flights can be difficult at times, but luckily Scott’s Cheap Fights can help you. You literally have to do no work at all. You will receive the lowest fare flight deals right in your inbox. It is a free email service that will save you so much time and money. You can upgrade to a pro version to receive even more deals. The great thing is that you don’t have to be in the USA, so you can change your location. Seriously, it’s a life changer.

Travel In The Off-Season

Peak season will always be more expensive. For both flights and accommodation that is. So if you are able to travel out of season then you may very well be able to save yourself a great deal of money. Low season for Europe is November- March. There are definitely still many things to do in off-season. You simply need to do a bit of research.

Don’t Over-pack

Personally I find this the most difficult when planning a trip. I know that I inevitably will pack too many clothes. I know that I will not wear all of them but like to give myself options.  Unfortunately as women I think that it is etched in our being? Anyone else? To curb the packing mania, I use smaller  inner bags and use a smaller suitcase. It makes the world of difference and you’ll thank yourself when you have a lighter load and don’t need Herculean strength to carry your suitcase up that flight of stairs. A good idea to narrow down your packing and to decide on what to pack is to decide on outfits beforehand. You can do this by taking pictures of outfits. Many clothing items can be worn with various outfits, so no you do not need to pack 12 dresses. Remember that if you are staying in an Airbnb then you most likely will be able to wash your clothes too. Leave enough space to bring home any clothing or souvenirs you will be buying.

Learn Key Phrases Ahead Of Time- Duolingo

I absolutely love Duolingo. This brilliant app is free and so easy to use. You can choose from an array of languages and learn key phrases before you travel. What’s great about the app is that you can set yourself goals and learn for only 10 minutes a day if thats what you want. You will get reminders on your phone to keep you on track with your goal.  Why order your pasta  in English when you can order it in Italian whilst in Italy! Think Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love whilst in Rome. Yes please.

Explore A New City Like A Local By Using Google Translate

Bless Google. Google translate has helped me many a time whilst travelling. Even though you have the basics down thanks to Duolingo, and can order your glass of wine in Italy, you probably still have no idea what the street signs and other signs may say. Google Translate can translate text to text as well as from images.

Avoid Caffeine

This is really important especially if you are going to a location far away and there is a big time zone  difference. Avoid caffeine a couple of days prior to your flight if possible. Avoid it on the airplane, once you land and even once you have checked in to your accommodation. Avoid having coffee  until you feel like you could fall asleep on the sidewalk. Then, and only then allow yourself a coffee. Having not had coffee recently the caffeine will really give you a boost and allow you to power through the rest of the day until you can go to sleep. This of course will depend where you are travelling from and to and what time you arrive at your destination. But nonetheless, a great hack to remember for future travels. There’s nothing worse than being jet-lagged in a new city.
